The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School was established in 2007 with a gift of $50 million from Trustee Emeritus Wm. Polk Carey. Carey shares Johns Hopkins University’s dedication to improving lives on a global scale by addressing pivotal societal issues -- including health, poverty, education, and environmental sustainability -- through rigorous research and teaching.

For the Carey School, this means transforming business education and repurposing the traditional business school toolkit to reflect principles of humanity, compassion, innovation, and opportunity.

In October 2007, the MIDC and Washington JCRC organized a successful trade mission to Israel for Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, where he expressed strong support for expanded economic and community ties between Montgomery County and Israel. Shortly after, the MIDC was awarded a grant by the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development.

The Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation Merrick School of Business University of Baltimore is hosting Dan Senor, renowned author and foreign attaché. Senor is coming to speak on his best selling book, “Start-Up Nation: The Story of Israel’s Economic Miracle.”  The keynote will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Tom Loveland, Rob Rosenbaum, David Lingelbach and the Maryland/Israel Development Center’s Barry Bogage.

While Israeli technology successes in networking, security, and software applications garner the most attention in the local and international press, the medical device industry is sort of a “dark horse,” said one expert, D. Todd Dollinger, chairman and CEO of the Trendlines Group. That industry attracts less attention in the media, Dollinger said, but even so, it’s a very successful and profitable dark horse.

Bogage is the 2012 winner of the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association's Michael S. Powell High School Journalist of the Year award.

The MIDC recently hosted a lunch welcoming back Dr. Rafael Beyar, President of Rambam Hospital in Haifa, to Baltimore. The lunch was held at Johns Hopkins.  Dr. Beyar served as Visiting Professor at Johns Hopkins for several years and also completed his fellowship in cardiology in Baltimore.
