Maryland center's $10M venture fund Abba David Poliakoff’s “V8 moment” hit when he was plotting the Maryland/Israel Development Center’s future strategy early this year. If the nonprofit he chaired was doing so well in helping grow and develop Israeli companies, imagine what it could do as a for-profit company. The Interview: Barry Bogage The Maryland/Israel Development Center sees itself as a matchmaker — not of a romantic kind but an economic one. For the past 19 years, the nonprofit group in Baltimore has been connecting Maryland companies with Israeli partners to promote trade and investments. Three area companies receive millions for innovation - Foundation to help Israeli, MD., D.C. techies Earlier this month at a meeting held in Washington, D.C., the Board of Governors of the Israel-U.S. Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation, approved $8.1 million of funding for nine new projects between Israeli and American companies. Ariadne in Rockville and Sitel/MedStar Health in D.C. are among the recipients. BIRD is Calling for New Proposals The BIRD Foundation announced its next funding cycle with a call for U.S.-Israel joint project proposals focusing on innovative R&D collaborations between U.S. and Israeli companies. To be considered, a proposal should have significant commercial potential.
Alvarion Wins Maryland Deal 4G network solutions provider Alvarion Ltd. (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) will supply its 4Motion network solution to Bloosurf Inc. for deployment in rural counties in eastern Maryland between the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. Alvarion did not disclose the size of the contract.
ExportMD Maryland’s Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED), through its Office of International Investment and Trade (OIIT), assists small to medium-sized businesses in their quest to enter the global marketplace. OIIT has created a trade assistance program–ExportMD—that serves as an incentive to undertake export promotion initiatives. Morgan Stanley Sees Israeli Growth at 4.8% U.S. investment bank Morgan Stanley today raised its growth forecast for Israel. A report by analyst Tevfik Aksoy entitled "Israel: Macro Smile - Say Cheese" began "Without doubt the Israeli economy remains one of the robust and well managed among both the developed and the emerging market economies."
High-tech Startups in Israel Raised $569M During Second Quarter High-tech start-ups in Israel raised $569 million during the second quarter, Reuters reported, citing a report from the Israel Venture Capital Research Center. The amount was up 19 percentfrom the first quarter and up 66% from a year earlier, Reuters wrote.
