MIDC Launches MarketReach America for Israeli Tech Companies

MarketReach LogoFive Israeli biomedical companies participated in the strategic planning phase of MarketReach America (www.marketreachamerica.com) during the week of April 18-22, 2004. The purpose of the Maryland conference was to begin planning the US market launch of the participantsí products and technologies. The companies are now receiving professional business consulting in Israel from program co-sponsor The Trendlines Group in preparation for a U.S. business development ìroad showî in the fall.

A key component of the strategic planning conference was the private consulting sessions for the Israeli entrepreneurs conducted by business advisors throughout the Maryland business community. Over 50 experts on various aspects of the American biomedical market consulted with the Israeli entrepreneurs, contributing to their knowledge of the market and ìopening doorsî for them to key contacts throughout the country.

A second MarketReach America program will be held for information, communication, electronics and dual use technologies in July, 2004.

Maryland Hosts U.S.-Israel Homeland Security Conference
Maryland hosted the U.S.-Israel Cooperative Civil Infrastructure Security (CIS) Program on June 11th, at the John Hopkins University Montgomery County Campus. The CIS program, sponsored by the U.S.-Israel Science and Technology Foundation, is examining needs, solutions, and cooperative programs between the two countries for utility, water and cyber infrastructure systems.

Marylandís Director of Homeland Security, Dennis Schrader, was the keynote speaker along with Israelís Senior Advisor to the Minister of National Infrastructure, Galya Levy. Participants included homeland security experts from government agencies, industry associations and private companies throughout Israel and the U.S. The MIDC, the Maryland Emergency Management Agency and Marylandís Office of Homeland Security are working together to position Maryland as the ìtest bedî for jointly developed U.S.-Israel homeland security technologies.

Pioneer UAV, Inc. was established in 1992 as a joint venture company between Hunt Valley, Maryland based AAI Corporation and Israel Aircraft Industries to produce the Pioneer UAV (unmanned air vehicle), the only tactical UAV in the US militaryís inventory to have flown in combat operations during Operations Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and Iraqi
Freedom II. The Pioneer UAV has amassed over 28,000 flight hours.

Pioneer UAV has received contracts from the U.S. Navy totaling over
$28 million to develop and procure upgrades to the Pioneer UAV system. These upgrades include a new engine, new air vehicle launcher and trailer, new ìIdentification, Friend or Foeî, a new air vehicle avionics/computer box, a new data link, and a state-of-the-art Ground Control Station.
