MIDC Launches Networking Events Series

NetworkingThe Maryland/Israel Development Center is launching a new series of quarterly networking events featuring guest speakers about Maryland and Israeli economic and business topics. Each event will also spotlight Israeli companies doing business in Maryland.

The first program will feature Yaacov Fisher, a leading Israeli economist who will speak about, "Israel's Economy: Challenges Facing the New Government.î The company spotlights will be with Avi Goldstein of Storewiz in Gaithersburg and Errez Segman of MLOM in College Park.

The event will be held from 8:00am ñ 9:15am, Thursday, May 4, 2006, at The Associated, 101 W. Mount Royal Avenue, Baltimore. There is no charge for this program. Please RSVP to ekushner@MarylandIsrael.org or call 410-767-0695. †

Israeli Energy Technology Company Powers Up in Maryland

Energy Technology SolutionsEnergy Technology Solutions LLC (ETS) and its Israeli strategic partner InSyst Ltd. of Jerusalem, recently opened an office in Sparks, MD. The company has seven employees in the U.S., with three in Maryland. It expects to grow to 30 workers in the U.S. in two years, with 20 at its U.S. headquarters in Maryland.

ETS and InSyst supply power plant operators with optimization, process control, early warning fault detection and diagnostics technology. The Smart Early Warnings (SEWô) technology provides an early detection system that minimizes and prevents outage-related damage and improves a plantís reliability. InSystís unique technology has already been successfully installed at the Orat Rabin Power Station in Israel and the University of Iowa Power station in Iowa City, IA.

Israeli Company in Maryland Launches New Finance Software

MLOM LogoMLOM, a 5-year old Israeli venture and a national credit reporting agency located in College Park, Maryland, developed and has begun selling its web-based software for the residential mortgage sales, qualification and funding market.

ETView Receives FDA Approval for Tracheoscopic Ventilation Tube (TVT)

ETViewMIDC MarketReach America participant, ETView of Misgav, Israel, received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval to market their innovative Tracheoscopic Ventilation Tube (TVT) in the U.S. in record time. The approval came less than two years from the establishment of the company and only 115 days after the application was submitted.

The easily inserted TVT is equipped with a tiny video camera at its tip for a continuous view of the upper airway and trachea via a portable screen or monitor, assuring correct placement of the device. It is an ideal solution for emergency medical personnel, hospitals, or in any situation where a patient needs continuous airway monitoring.

Israelís Economic Indicators on the Rise

Isreali FlagIsraelís Ministry of Finance has increased its 2006 growth outlook to 4.1 percent from 3.9 percent. The Israel Discount Bankís recent economic overview, says prospects for the Israeli economy ìremain strong from a long-term perspective.î The inflation rate was 2.7 percent for the twelve months ending in January, with the inflation outlook for 2006 at 2.5 percent.

Regarding employment, the bank states, ìThe past two years of rapid growth have left their imprint on the labor market. During 2005, employment climbed by 5 percent and the unemployment rate fell by a full percentage point to 8.8 percent in Q4. They predict that the unemployment rate will continue to drop in 2006 to 8.5 percent on average.

Israel/U.S. Cooperation Detecting Illicit Nuclear Material Shipments

Cargo ShipThe U.S. and Israel have signed an agreement to begin a joint effort to detect and interdict illicit shipments of nuclear and radioactive materials. Special equipment installed at one of Israelís busiest ports will help thwart terrorist attempts to use seaports to smuggle materials that could be used to build a nuclear device or ìdirty bomb.î This effort is part of a nonproliferation program of the U.S. Department of Energyís National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) established by Congress in 2000.
