Israel spends more money per capita on research and development than any other country in the developed world, according to data recently released by Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). According to the CBS, the national expenditure on R&D in 2006 rose slightly to NIS 28.3 billion (approximately $7.1 billion), or 4.5% of GDP. The CBS also noted that the Israeli R&D figure topped all members of the OECD, the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development, where the top per capita spender on R&D was Sweden with 3.7%.
