MIDC and Maryland Biotechnology Institute to host 20 Israeli Marine Biologists

Come meet Israel's and Maryland's leading marine biotechnology scientists who are studying the oceans and the Chesapeake Bay in order to improve our sustainable seafood supplies, discover new pharmaceuticals and enhance the quality of our coastal and marine environments. The Maryland/Israel Development Center formed a partnership between the Center of Marine Biotechnology (COMB) of the University of Maryland and Israel's leading academic and research institutions. Maryland/Israel scientific teams are conducting breakthrough research on aquaculture, marine biotechnology and pharmaceutical development.


The Israeli delegation is being brought to Maryland as part of a special grant through the State of Maryland and US-Israel Bi-national Agricultural Research and Development Foundation (BARD).  University Of Maryland Center Of Marine Biotechnology (soon to be renamed the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology) is an internationally recognized research laboratory that works to study, protect and enhance marine and estuarine resources.

Smarter than a Smart Car: Israel's 'Better Place' and the Electric Car


Israel's innovation strikes again. Come hear about the leading electric car project in the world. Michael Granoff, principal investor in Better Place , will speak about this fascinating electric car concept. Granoff and founder Shai Agassi want to reduce the world's dependence on oil by creating an effective electric smart car with the necessary national network of recharging infrastructure. Better Place is getting global attention, and just weeks ago received a $350 million equity investment.  The program will be held at 7:00pm, Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Towson University, new College of Liberal Arts (CLA) Building Room 4110. The Jewish Museum has a free city lot in front, free parking on the block in front of the Museum and use of the employee lot behind the Museum. The Jewish Museum is in downtown Baltimore at 15 Lloyd Street, and is a few blocks east of President Street between Baltimore Street on the north and Lombard Street on the south.
