    • 1988. Maryland Governor William Donald Schaefer and Israel'­s Ambassador to the United States, Moshe Arad, sign a Declaration of Cooperation, to promote economic development between Maryland and Israeli businesses and research institutions.

    • 1989. Governor Schaefer leads Maryland'­s first gubernatorial trade mission to Israel.

    • 1990. The ASSOCIATED: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore'­s Economic Development Team is formed. Chairman Marvin Schapiro provides the vision to help create private sector jobs in Maryland and Israel by promoting trade, investment and joint ventures.

    • 1992. Upon the recommendation of the Economic Development Team and in the spirit of the Declaration of Cooperation, the Maryland/Israel Development Center is established and an Executive Director is hired. The organization is incorporated as a "public-private partnership" between The ASSOCIATED, the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, Israel'­s Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Jewish Agency for Israel.

    • 1993. The Maryland/Israel Development Center completes its first deal between several Israeli manufacturers of Dead Sea cosmetics with the Maryland-based Cosmetic Center.

    • 1994. The Maryland/Israel Development Center receives its first grant from the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development.

    • 1995. A $3 million grant from the U.S.-Israel Science and Technology Commission is awarded to a consortium of Maryland and Israeli companies and research institutions to conduct joint research in aquaculture. A Baltimore Sun

      editorial lauds the Maryland/Israel Development Center'­s instrumental role in bringing the project to fruition.
    • 1996. Reflecting the success of the Maryland/Israel Development Center, the organization becomes a permanent constituent agency of THE ASSOCIATED.

    • 1997. Maryland Governor Parris N. Glendening leads a Maryland/Israel Development Center trade mission to Israel. Among the successes announced is a multi-million dollar investment by Baltimore-based Sylvan Learning Systems in The Kidum Group, an Israeli educational technology company.

    • 1999. During a Maryland/Israel Development Center trade mission led by state Secretary of Business and Economic Development Mike Lewin, the Maryland/Israel Visiting Scientists Program in Biotechnology is announced at a ceremony in Tel Aviv. Participants include Dr. Robert Gallo, director of the University of Maryland Institute of Human Virology, and Maryland State Senator Barbara Hoffman.

    • 2001. Two Israeli scientists were selected to participate in the Maryland/Israel Visiting Scientists Program: Tel Aviv University'­s Dr. Jonathan Gershoni, to conduct AIDS vaccine research with Dr. Gallo and the Institute of Human Virology, and Bar Ilan University'­s Dr. Ron Unger, to conduct research on proteomics at the University of Maryland Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology.

      Also, a group of young Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel culminated their executive M.B.A. program with a study tour in Maryland. Hosted by the Maryland/Israel Development Center, the Building Business Bridges delegation of the Tel Aviv-based Center for Jewish - Arab Economic Development... met with top Maryland high tech executives, startup entrepreneurs, investors, government officials and Middle East analysts.

    • 2002. Celebrating its past and ushering in its future, the Maryland/Israel Development Center marks its ten-year anniversary and unveils its new direction. The organization announces the MarketReach America, to prepare Israeli entrepreneurs to conduct business in the United States
    • 2003. The MIDC organizes trade mission to Israel for Gov. Robert Ehrlich where Gov. Ehrlich announced the Maryland/Israel partner for homeland security. The partnership promotes "best practice" exchanges between the security professionals of both communities as well as business and R&D cooperation between homeland security companies. Gov. Ehrlich also announced that the Maryland/Israel Development Center was awarded a $116,000 from the US-Israel Science and Technology Foundation, a bi-governmental agency, to launch MarketReach America.

    • 2004. The MIDC conducts its first MarketReach America program for Israeli life science companies.

    • 2005. MIDC organizes homeland security mission to Israel for Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley.

    • 2006. Under new chairman Abba David Poliakoff, the MIDC becomes a membership organization and establishes target industry committees including Life Sciences, Technology and Professional Services.

    • 2007. Governor Martin O'Malley awards MIDC an additional $50,000 grant to expand its MarketReach America program.
