Push to Grow Jobs in Maryland, Israel
As the ancient proverb goes, “Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.” With that philosophy in mind, a new wave of philanthropy is taking root here, one that its advocates believe can develop more jobs both in Maryland and the Jewish state.
Here’s how it works: Instead of merely giving money to Israeli communities for charitable causes, Maryland investors are funneling money into early-stage Israeli companies to help them grow.
The Maryland/Israel Development Fund is the brainchild of the Maryland Israel Development Center (MIDC), a public-private partnership of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, Israel’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore.
