MIDC Annual Holiday Networking Event Welcomes Crowd of Jewish, Israeli Business Professionals
Baltimore, MD - Dec. 14 - The Maryland/Israel Development Center (MIDC) last night hosted its third annual holiday networking reception at the University of Maryland BioPark. The evening drew upwards of 70 people, mostly business professionals in the hi-tech, biotech and financial sectors. The Maryland/Israel Development Center promotes trade and investment between Maryland and Israel to help create jobs in both economies. Through its membership base, programming and services, it provides an "instant infrastructure" of business contacts and support in the U.S. market for Israeli entrepreneurs.
A highlight of the networking reception was a short presentation by E. Albert Reece, MD, PhD, MBA, Vice President for Medical Affairs at the University of Maryland, and John Z. and Akiko K. Bowers Distinguished Professor and Dean of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He provided an overview of some of the new medical technologies being discovered at UB, some of which are being done in collaboration with Israeli scientists. Dr. Reece explained that he sees Maryland and Israel as complementary partners, both strong in life sciences, information technology, homeland security and other high-tech industries. Dr. Alan Cross highlighted new research collaboration with the University of Maryland and Atox Bio of Israel.
The networking event also served to launch the MIDC 2012 Membership Campaign. MIDC members gain preferred access to Israeli, Maryland and U.S. business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, scientists and government officials. Members also receive discounted rates to all MIDC programs and special publications highlighting local and Israeli innovative work.
